The pope made the unexpected pit stop during his ride to visit the mobster-plagued town of Calabria over the weekend.

A video posted to Facebook shows Francis get out of the backseat of a blue car as soon as it stops near a crowd gathered along the roadside to watch the motorcade.
He then bends down to kiss the forehead of a disabled girl on a stretcher as the group of onlookers cheered.

“Brava Papa Francesco!” some yelled as the pope shook a few hands before getting back in the car and driving away.
